When you’re a renowned bicycle manufacturer like Cannondale, there’ll always be pressure to deliver according to the customers’ expectations. And let’s be honest here, most of us really put a lot of consideration into the price tag. Cannondale hasn’t disappointed in this regard with its Catalyst range of bicycles which are pocket-friendly, comfortable, and most importantly, very efficient. In this our review article, we’re going to look at the Cannondale Catalyst 3 27.5” and why it’s worth the hype.

Cannondale Catalyst 3 Features
Cannondale Catalyst 3 front fork suspension is SR Suntour M3030 coil-powered and delivers 75mm of wheel travel. This is definitely not enough if you’re looking to go on an extreme trail racing. However, this should be enough to fulfil your biking satisfaction in those bumpy forest roads.
The SmartForm C3 alloy frame is long lasting and also offers low overall weight with relaxed geometry. To cut a long story short, you’ll be biking in a more upright position, thus avoiding those dreaded neck and back pains.
The Catalyst 3 comes fully packaged with 27.5” wheels which offer a combination of momentum and agility. This coupled with the 21 hill-taming gears on offer are simply enough to handle any style of riding.
The first impression you’ll get when you first look at the Catalyst 3 2019 model is the eye-catching paint quality and finish. In fact, if you’re not keen enough, you might confuse it with the Cannondale Trail Series. All in all, the bright electric lime green color makes this bike to stand out among the rest.
5. Other components
With disc brakes mostly found in high-end mountain bikes, Cannondale Catalyst 3 is an exception. Its Tektro cable actuated disc brakes not only assures you of your safety but also the bike’s quality. Let’s not forget the proprietary shaped and flattened seat and chain that ensures you have a smooth and quiet ride by effectively absorbing vibrations and bumps.
Cannondale Catalyst 3 Performance
As long as you stay on the basic trails and surfaces, you’ll get a quality ride with this bike, because the strongly built frame effectively soaks up any vibrations. However, the suspension is a major letdown as you won’t get the best cushioning and dampening that you’d expect from a Cannondale MTB. In addition, the clanking noise coming from the rear when going over sharp bumps is something Cannondale should look at.
Cannondale Catalyst 27.5” 2019 MTB will definitely ensure that this company makes enough sales in the ever growing cycling market, it’s a great entry level hardtail. This mountain bike can definitely be relied upon considering that it’s straight from Cannondale, but we feel there are still some areas that need some improvement. Our main concern is the poor suspension system that wouldn’t cut it with many seasoned riders. However, if you consider the price tag and the available features, this bike still represents good value for your money. If you have a bit more money to spend, consider the Cannondale Trail 5.
