Waking up with the sound of poring rain in the morning is not really the motivation I need before a World Cup Final. At least I won’t be the only one riding in the mud today…
I haven’t seen such a muddy course since the Worlds 93 in Metabief. Walking up the two major climbs with the stiff bike shoes was really hurting. I crashed right at the end of the start loop and lost the leading group there. So I rode and ran pretty much through the whole race alone behind the leaders and finally finished 7th. I lost one place in the overall ranking from 4th to 5th to Thomas Frischknecht.
Getting clean again for the podium was almost harder then racing!! Thanks to our wonderful, very hard working team-staff. I turned out looking quite nice for the podium to get the globe trophy.
