It was a coincidence that during my holidays at lake Tahoe the Xterra finals were on. We (Ian Malec a IT specialist -who could not fix my broken laptop-, from Silicon Valley, plus Katerina Nash, yes the mountain biker) put a fun team together.
We arrived way too late at the start, where it was very cold and windy. Due to this harsh weather the swim got cancelled, and got replaced by a short run.
Ian who already geared up into his borrowed wet suit at our beach house, had a hard time to get it off in the 10min before the start. Luckily he brought some running gear as well, and he just made it in time to the line. My bike ride on my Stumpjumper holiday bike was great! Sure I missed the bar ends or all the lightweight bling bling of my Epic, but on the long final descent I would not liked to change with any other bike!
Obviously I was faster than expected on my 1.35h bike leg, because there was no Katerina -our final runner- waiting for me in the transition zone. After a few minutes she turned up, kept cool and showed off that she can not only ride bikes! Not sure if it was the extra pressure or talent that made her go so fast. She easy maintained our lead and finally we were the lucky winners!
