First Place, 18sec ahead of Martin Gujan
My 6th national title in the 6th championship race I was attending.
It was my ever best way to travel to a race.
I made a 5 day freeride tour out of it. I rode or carried my Enduro bike over a lot of passes in the Swiss "nowhere land". I used hiking maps to find my way, and as luggage I used a 12 litre backpack only, which was loaded with the minimum only.
The long hiking sections were very tough. I got blisters and sore legs, since it was not very comfy to carry my bike up passes with carbon sole bike shoes! But all the very technical downhills afterwards made my days, big time!
Since I had no rest day, and arrived straight at the race the day before, I was super surprised how well I started to feel after lap 3 of the race. Ok, my thighs were very sore, and ready to explode after every long climb. I always had to go off the saddle to change my bike position.
Until two laps to go, we were a group of 4, with Gujan, Vogel, Näf and myself, looking for the right move. I attacked at the beginning of this lap, before a very steep uphill.
I was surprised how quickly I got way, and after that I was clear with about 30sec all the way to the finish.
