21min. back from today's winner, Roel Paulissen
After 1hr in the race a stone cut my tyre sidewall off. At that time my team mate Frederik, Roel and I already had a good lead. Luckily I got a tube and co2 cannister from Frederik to fix my flat, but the co2 adapter did not work at all! I had to wait until a passing rider gave me his spare adapter and a new co2. Thankyou to him!
After this big break I was back in the race again, and caught more and more riders back. Suddenly I was riding for 3rd place again, but only because I took a short cut, but not in purpose! Anyway, I flatted right away in this position, and met Frederik on the side as well... No wonder he was looking for a tube since he gave me his spare one... I felt very sorry!
There is a lot of cameraderie in mt-biking and it took us not so long to get new tubes and pumps from other competitors, but the race was over by far!
Finally back into the race, we only cruised together to the finish. By that time we were really ready for lunch or breakfast. Because the start was too early to wake up early enough to have a proper meal before the race, we only had coffee before the start!
