Appends to race/event: 11.10.2009 // Roc d'Azur Cross Country, Fréjus F

53km, 1'700m altitude gain, 2.18hrs
14th place, 6.44min off winner Roel Paulissen

Traditionally in one of the two races I puncture here at Roc d'Azur, and unfortunately this tradition continued... My start was not very spectacular and I was already worried that I am racing in the middle of nowhere again like last Friday. But suddenly I caught up with the leading group in a downhill and then I was in awesome spirit and the legs turned for free!
I was so ready for a big win, lead the race by a few seconds and there was only a flat section ahead towards the finish. But a slow punctured in the rear crossed my luck. I have tried to refill it with a co2 canister but after a few minutes the air was out again. At that point I got passed by several riders and the podium was out of reach by far. Luckily Benno was not too far with a spare wheel, and that made me go comfortable and without getting my hands dirty to the finish.
All in all it was great to race for a big win, feeling good and getting the emotional kick in a race again.

Now my head is sore from yesterdays party. A two day photo shoot for men health is ahead in the Provence. All this does not really light up my spirit, I think I gotta go for more coffee!
